Prestigious Award Recognizes Vidyo Solutions that Enable Growth, Sustainability and the Potential to Change the World

HACKENSACK, NJ, August 28, 2012 – Vidyo, Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, today announced that it has been selected by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a 2013 Technology Pioneer.  WEF Tech Pioneers are chosen based on their innovation, potential impact, growth and sustainability, proof of concept and leadership. Vidyo is one of 23 companies selected this year from hundreds of global nominees that have been identified for their potential to transform the future of business and society.

“Being recognized by the WEF as a Tech Pioneer is a huge honor, given the rigorous nature of the selection process and the exceptional caliber of entrants from across the globe,” said Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo’s co-founder and CEO.  “In recent years, videoconferencing has had a significant impact on the way we communicate. Videoconferencing is changing how a diverse group of people, from varying industries and specialties all over the world are able to communicate. This face-to-face communication allows for recognition of the cultural, social, and emotional nuances that so often get lost over the phone and email. In short, we have democratized communication by reducing the cost and technology barriers for everyone all over the world — not just the most elite enterprises. This, we believe, will shape the future of global communication.”

The World Economic Forum recognizes the work done by companies that aim to transform the way businesses and society work.  This year’s Technology Pioneers were selected for their visionary leadership and proven technology in the areas of information technology, telecommunications and new media, life sciences and health, and energy and environment. Previous Technology Pioneers include Google (2001), Mozilla (2007) and Twitter (2010).

“These companies are more than pioneering the way we use technology; they are transforming how we as a society are growing and interacting with each other,” said Silvia von Gunten, Head of Technology Pioneers at the World Economic Forum. “They are also providing new opportunities for people to harness the potential of technology.”

Vidyo has changed the face of videoconferencing by delivering a new architecture that raises the bar set by incumbent providers, creates new markets and delivers superior value, accessibility, and scalability to its customers. Its paradigm-shifting platform was built from the ground up to enable telepresence-quality video communications at a fraction of the cost of alternatives via Internet, LTE, 3G and 4G networks, accessible from a full-range of off-the-shelf devices. Vidyo today has over 2000 customers using Vidyo-branded systems worldwide, conferencing service providers.

Vidyo’s achievement will be honored at the Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2012 in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China, from 11-13 September, which will be attended by Vidyo’s CEO and co-founder, Ofer Shapiro.  A video interview with Mr. Shapiro about the role of Vidyo as a Technology Pioneer can be viewed here.

The Vidyo Difference

The Vidyo communication and collaboration platform is software-based, highly flexible and can be easily customized for individual enterprise and vertical market video conferencing needs. The patented VidyoRouter™ architecture introduces Adaptive Video Layering, which dynamically optimizes the video for each endpoint leveraging H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC)-based compression technology and Vidyo’s IP. Adaptive Video Layering eliminates the MCU and offers unprecedented error resiliency, low latency rate matching thus enabling natural, affordable, high-quality video to work over the Internet, LTE and 4G networks. The platform allows users to quickly leverage the latest hardware innovations and new consumer devices, making it uniquely attractive to partners. Vidyo has been active driving H.264 SVC and SIP videoconferencing interoperability in various standards bodies since 2005.
